Slate refers to the commercial name of the stone ,which can be peeled into slabs. It is also called roofing slate, flagstone, and bluestone. In petrology, slate belongs to sediment of metamorphic mudstone and siltstone. Slate is formed by metamorphic clay-stone, sandstone(arenaceous rock), or the mid-acid tuff.
Slate is multicolor: light blue, black, light green, pink, brown, pale gray, and yellow.
Slate owns special slab structure- vein. It's not only easy to cleave along its vein,but also its cleaving surface is very even.The characters of slate as following : rich vein, rigid texture, classic elegance color , low sucking rate, no radiation pollution ,matte, slipingproof, acidproof , alkalproof, fireproof, freezeproof ,enduring airslake, and good quality of being put together.
The slate is called bluestone by local people at Xingzi county, in Jiujiang city Jiangxi Province . During Song dynasty, slate was exploited to make inkstone, called "Golden Star, Song Inkstone".Nowadays "Golden Star,Song Inkstone" is well-known both at home and abroad. In recent years, the slates are largely exploited to make industry products, using for decoration and civilian construction materials, stationery which are great appreciated in western countries, Asia and jinqing Slate's mineral contains:
